LUTHERAN SOCIAL SERVICES
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Lutheran Social Services believes that volunteers enrich lives.
The young people at the Gustavus Adolphus Learning Center are in need of adults who are able to focus on just them. Residents at the Lutheran Retirement Home benefit in many ways. Volunteers provide music, legs to move a wheelchair, afriendly face. They can read, serve coffee, but most important is that they have the time to smile, chat, share a laugh. Our residents don't have the opportunities to get out into the community as much as they would like. Therefore it is important to bring the community to them. LSS needs you!
Gustavus Adolphus Child and Family Services
Independent Reviewer
The GACFS needs individuals to sit in on care conferences. This is about a one and a half hour to three hour commitment per month. Training is available.
Mentor
Some of our young people at GACFS do not have a family to visit on weekends. Take a young person to dinner, a ball game, a movie. This is a larger time commitment than Independent Reviewer. Training is available.
Activity
Can you build a model, build and fly a kite? Do you have a special skill you could share with some of our young people? We need you!
Lutheran Retirement Home
Transporter
To participate in all of the activities, opportunities and events at LRH, residents need able bodied folks to push wheelchairs. Mornings, afternoons and evenings are available. A special need is Sunday afternoons for worship at 3:00PM. Come at 2:00PM and stay until 4:30PM or so. You will be blessed.
Eden Family Members
Each of the six units at LRH is a "family". We need volunteers who are assigned to one unit to assist the staff. This could entail helping out in the evenings on a regular basis, taking residents for a walk outside or through the facility. It may mean taking someone to the gift shop or reading the newspaper or a book to someone who can no longer see to read. It could mean being available for special projects or answering the phone on a unit in the late afternoon or evening. This category also includes coffee servers. Our residents love their coffee and treats in the afternoon. Come and help us serve!
Gift Shop
The Little Something Shop, located in the lobby should be open more hours! Morning, weekend and evening hours are available.
